This design is inspired by the “Catrinas” with my own personal touch, which is to try and break the conventional gender roles. That is the reason why it is called “Catrine”.The “Catrina” is a key representative icon within Mexican culture and she was created by the discontent of the Mexican popular classes and as a satire of the aristocracy. “Catrin” was often referred to someone from the upper class, generally a well-dressed, wealthy person. The original name of this figure was “Calavera Garbancera” as “garbancera” was the nickname at that time given to people of indigenous ancestry who imitated and acted with European style and denied their cultural heritage.
